Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is the most abundant corticosteroid hormone in the body, and it acts as a substrate for a variety of other hormones. Current research demonstrates that DHEA levels steadily decline with age after approximately age 25, reaching a low at age 80 of only about 5% of that of a 20-year-old. DHEA converts to (or stimulates the production of) estrogen, testosterone, cortisone and many other steroid hormones as needed by the body. Additionally, some cells have specific DHEA receptor sites. Research suggests that DHEA supports the maintenance of normal adrenal and immune function, bone density, healthy skin, and sexual health. Karuna’s DHEA contains biochemically pure DHEA in amounts suitable for flexible dosing. We do not use wild yam or other sources claiming to contain “natural” DHEA precursors, because studies demonstrate these precursors cannot be activated in the human body.

Ginkgo biloba is an ancient plant whose constituents have numerous beneficial effects on nerve tissue and circulation. Ginkgo biloba is an ancient plant containing two important constituent groups – the ginkgo flavone glycosides and the terpene lactones. The Ginkgo biloba in GinkgoMag is standardized in relation to both ginkgo flavone glycosides (24%) and terpene lactones (6%).
Ginkgo components facilitate optimal blood flow to all tissues by inhibiting platelet activating factor (PAF) activity and modulating the effects of neurotransmitters and endothelial-derived blood vessel relaxing factors (Thromb Res 2002;108:151-60; Fitoterapia 1998;49:195–244).
Ginkgo promotes normal circulation (Fortschr Med 1993;111(10):170-2) and can increase comfortable walking ability in people with poor circulation (Am J Med 2000;108:276-81).
Magnesium is required for ion transport across cell membranes to maintain neuromuscular electrical potentials and facilitate neuro-transmission (Clin Calcium 2005;15: 87-90, 255-60).
