tablet |
HepatoPlex contains a complex of botanic and nutritional components that support gallbladder and liver function. The compounds in dandelion root, fumitory, barberry root and artichoke leaf extract facilitate bile flow. Betaine and methionine are methyl donors that are required by hepatic detoxification mechanisms. The flavonoids from milk thistle exert a number of useful actions supporting the liver.
-
Dandelion, barberry and fumitory are traditional botanical medicines possessing choleretic effects that promote optimal biliary function (Arzneimittelforschung 1959;9:376-8; Med Prom SSSR 1964;18:59-60;
Z Allgemeinmed 1971;47:1819-20).
-
Artichoke leaf extract has been shown in human clinical studies to have choleretic (bile flow-enhancing) and cholesterol-regulating effects, and also possesses hepatoprotective activity according to in vitro research (Phytomedicine 1997;4:370-8; Wien Med Wochenschr 1999;149:241-7; Arzneimittelforschung 2000;50:260-5).
-
Silymarin is a mixture of potent bioflavonoids that support normal repair mechanisms in the liver (Agency Healthcare Res Qual:

N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) is a precursor of the tripeptide glutathione, a critical antioxidant, with roles in xenobiotic
detoxification, amino acid metabolism and immune defense. NAC acts as a mucolytic agent and thus assists normal
respiratory function. By acting as a glutathione precursor, NAC helps maintain normal immune, liver and cardiovascular
function.
-
N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) is a precursor of the tripeptide glutathione – a critical antioxidant, with roles in
xenobiotic detoxification and amino acid metabolism. Glutathione depletion is characteristic of many conditions
of impaired health (Curr Opin Clin Nutr Metab Care 1999;2:487-92).
-
N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC) acts as a mucolytic agent and thus assists in restoring normal respiratory function
(Clin Ther 2000; 22:209-21; Respiration 1999;66:495-500; Eur Respir J 1997;10:1535-41).
-
By acting as a reliable oral glutathione precursor, NAC helps maintain normal immune, liver and cardiovascular
function (Altern Med Rev 1998;3:114-27).

Over a decade of rigorous clinical studies in Europe and elsewhere have established SAM-e (S-adenosyl-L-methionine, an essential methylation and transulfuration cofactor) as a useful tool for supporting normal mood regulation, and joint
and liver health. SAM-e increases cell membrane fluidity, up-regulates neurotransmitter receptor number, and enhances neurotransmitter receptor affinity. SAM-e supports healthy joints both by increasing the number of articular chondrocytes, and by stimulating the synthesis of protective sulfated proteoglycans therein. SAM-e also protects synovial cells against pro-inflammatory prostanoids, and blocks enzymes that degrade cartilage. SAM-e is a precursor of the critical antioxidant glutathione, a key molecule in the detoxification process in the liver. SAM-e Plus contains the tosylate form of SAM-e as used extensively in clinical trials, and includes several other ingredients found in studies to support and facilitate these functions. SAM-e Plus tablets are enterically coated, essential for preventing demethylation
in the stomach.
-
S-Adenosyl-L-Methionine (SAM-e) supports normal liver function by acting as
a methyl donor, and by promoting the regeneration of sulfur-containing amino
acids and glutathione which protect against oxidative stress and toxic
substances (Aliment Pharmacol Ther 1993 Feb;7(1):21-8).
-
SAM-e promotes the health of joints by stimulating the synthesis of proteoglycans
in articular chondrocytes; SAM-e acts with minimal or no side effects on the
gastrointestinal tract and other organs (Am J Med 1987 Nov 20;83(5A):60-5).
-
SAM-e is a major source of methyl groups in the brain, and promotes normal brain
function in subjects with mood irregularities (Acta Neurol Scand Suppl
1994;154:7-14).
-
SAM-e Plus tablets are enterically coated, which is essential since oral SAM-e
is largely demethylated in the stomach, thereby losing much of its unique character.
-
SAM-e Plus includes additional nutrient factors essential for normal methylation functions (Proc Nutr Soc 1999;58:441-8, Am J Clin Nutr 1995;61:659S-665S).

Traditional Chinese herbal formula for hepatic and immune system support
Product # 5123 |
60 Capsules |
 |
Sho-Saiko-To is the Japanese name
for an ancient Chinese formula highly regarded for maintaining healthy liver and immune function. Clinical trials have repeatedly demonstrated the efficacy of this formula for protecting
the liver. Adding synergistic benefits to Sho-Saiko-To are the well known western herb Silybum marianum (milk thistle), selenium and vitamin E, all
of which have shown hepatoprotective antioxidant activity. The reproduction of certain viruses has been shown in laboratory studies to be inhibited by
the ingredients in Sho-Saiko-To.
-
Sho-saiko-to, a traditional oriental herbal combination used for liver and immune support, has been the subject of significant scientific scrutiny (J Gastroenterol Hepatol 2000;15:D84-90).
-
Sho-saiko-to promotes normal
serum liver enzyme levels and increases antibodies associated with hepatoprotection (Gastroenterol Jpn 1989;24:715-9).
-
In vitro studies indicate that Sho-saiko-to and its constituents inhibit the replication of several viruses (Antiviral Res 1990;14:279-86; Planta Med 1992;58:171-3).
-
Sho-saiko-to has been successfully used to reduce the risk of disturbances in normal hepatic chromosomal replication (Jpn J Cancer Chemother 1989;16:1519–24; Cancer 1995;76:743-9). .

Potent milk thistle extract for hepatoprotection
Product # 5206 |
90 Capsules |
 |
This flavonoid mixture extracted from milk thistle (Silybum marianum) seeds is referred to as Silymarin and has received some of the most extensive research of any phytomedicinal extract. These flavonoids have a strong affinity for the liver, where they exert a number of useful actions. By acting as antioxidants, increasing intrahepatic glutathione levels and blocking entry of toxins into liver cells, they protect the liver from free radical and other damage. Supporting the liver’s resistance to the harmful effects of alcohol, drugs and other pollutants is another property demonstrated by Silymarin.
-
Silymarin is a mixture of potent bioflavonoids that support normal repair mechanisms in the liver (Agency Healthcare Res Qual:
Number 21, September 2000)..
-
Silymarin contains liver-specific antioxidant properties, directly scavenging free radicals and increasing levels of hepatoprotective glutathione (Tokai J Exp Clin Med 1986;11:121-34).
-
Silymarin interacts with hepatic cell membranes, thereby blocking binding sites and inhibiting the uptake of toxins such as carbon tetrachloride, alcohol and pollutants (Arzneim-Forsch Drug Res 1980;30:452-4; Toxicol Appl Pharmacol 1979;51:265-75).
-
Silymarin supports the liver’s resistance to the potentially damaging effects of alcohol, drugs, toxic chemicals, and other substances (Curr Ther Res 1994;S5:S37-45; Z Klin Med 1994;2:22-7)..
