Vegetarian Capsules
Most of the encapsulated products we offer are now provided to you in vegetarian capsules. Traditional gelatin capsules are used to encapsulate formulations containing non-vegetarian ingredients. We appreciate the support for this positive evolution from so many of our Customers committed to purity and hypoallergenicity. After careful testing, we have selected the strongest and most reliable vegetarian-source capsules.

About Ingredients
Karuna products reflect our commitment to providing you with herbal and nutritional supplements free of preservatives,
excipients or other additives problematic for the allergic or sensitive patient. Tablets and capsules contain no added
sugars, artificial flavorings or preservatives. Disintegration time for all tablets is QC verified at thirty minutes or
less unless otherwise indicated. Our search for the finest natural ingredients extends across six continents, and organic
sources provide an increasingly larger percentage of our ingredient choices.
Solubility and bioavailability are primary considerations in the design of Karuna capsules and tablets, and we use
hypoallergenic ingredients to fill any additional space. Where necessary, cellulose (vegetable fiber from white birch) is
used as a disintegrant, and vegetable stearines are utilized as lubricants. For tablets, aqueous cellulose coating is
used unless non-allergenic food glaze or pH-sensitive enteric coatings are required by the nature
of the tablet. Amino acid chelates are from barley or rice, hydrolyzed protein or free amino acids.
For herbal ingredients, standardized botanical extracts are used whenever possible, assuring reliable potency.
Herbal concentrates are used in many formulas and are indicated in parentheses. For example, a (4:1) herbal extract
represents a four-fold concentrate of the starting material, with four pounds of raw herb being required to produce one
pound of extract. The resulting activity will be approximately four times that of the powdered, unconcentrated herb.
Reading Karuna Labels
The ingredient listings in this catalog, like Karuna product labels, comply with FDA Supplement Facts requirements.
For both product labels and catalog listings, we make every effort to report clearly what is and what is not in our
products by following the correct format for declaration of ingredients. For herbs, the common name is usually
followed by the italicized Latin name in parentheses. The parenthetical word following a non-herbal ingredient
generally reflects the ingredient source, as in Calcium (citrate). The amount in milligrams, micrograms or
International Units (IUs) which follows reflects the actual amount of the ingredient preceding the parentheses,
not the amount of the source from which it is derived. Thus, in the case of:
Calcium (citrate) 400 mg
the formula is providing 400 mg of actual elemental calcium. Because only about 20% of calcium citrate complex is
elemental calcium, the formula must contain 2,000 mg of calcium citrate complex in order to substantiate a label
claim of 400 mg of Calcium (citrate). By contrast, a label reading:
Calcium citrate 400 mg
can be misleading: your patient may be receiving just 80 mg of elemental calcium (20% of the 400 mg calcium citrate
complex).
The same rules apply for mineral complexes of amino acids (chelates), aspartates, sulfates, oxides and other forms,
as well as for certain vitamins, all of which yield only a characteristic percentage of the mineral or vitamin itself.
Structure and Function Statements
Most product formulations in this catalog are preceded by several bulleted ( • ) statements permitted under the
Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994. Where appropriate, the statements include citations to research
findings in respected medical publications. We trust you will find them helpful. These statements are truthful and
non-misleading, describing the role or mechanism of a nutrient or dietary ingredient as it relates to the structure
and function in human beings. Karuna Corporation has substantiation for each of these statements. Notwithstanding
the foregoing, the FDA requires the following statement, which appears throughout this Catalog:

requests. You can place your fax orders toll-free at any time day or night, using our convenient fax order form and
faxing your orders to 800-711-6740 or 415-382-0142. Minimum order size is $20.00. Orders totaling less than $20.00
are subject to a $5.00 handling fee in addition to shipping charges. Initial orders may be charged to your VISA,
MasterCard, American Express or Discover card – or shipped C.O.D.
Your order, received by 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Friday, will be shipped the same day. Other orders
will go out the following business day. At your request, your rush orders can receive expedited shipping. You will be
charged only the shipper’s actual charge for expedited shipments. With the exception of distributors, no shipping will
be charged for orders totaling in excess of $200.00, or for orders totaling over $150.00 when paid by credit card, as
long as these orders utilize U.P.S. standard ground delivery. The free shipping provisions of the preceding sentence
do not apply to orders sent to Alaska, Hawaii and foreign countries.
Returns will be accepted within 60 days of purchase, as long as the product is not marked on or opened.
